This past week we had registration for the 2015-2016 school year at King's Cross School.   We had a huge turnout of people.  Last year we had 180 registered student.  This year we had 230 register.  This creates a huge problem for our ministry.  If we enroll all these students, we will need to hire an additional teacher as well as a couple teacher aids.  The additional students would put a hurting to our lunch program budget.  In addition, more bench/desk would need to be purchased.  Also a lot more school books and supplies.  This has caused a panic for us as we do not have the extra money in our budget.

One option would be to cap our enrollment and a certain number and not worry about those kids that are denied enrollment to the school.  This clearly is not the route I choose.  How will we pay for this?  This has been troubling us since last week.

Another option is to allow all students to attend and raise the approximately additional $600 a month needed.  This raises the question again of how to raise that additional money needed.  In the perfect world, all our school students would be sponsored.  This would cover much of the school expenses.  Sadly we do not live in a perfect world and many of the kids need sponsors.

Our strong faith does play a huge roll in the decisions we will make.  Going with our current budget, we could deny the extra kids and proceed with life as normal.  This would mean 50 children a day would most likely not eat.  This would mean 50 kids probably will not hear the Gospel.  If we follow our faith, we can believe that the Lord will meet our needs and proceed with ministering to the people of Galgal Haiti.

To sponsor a child at $10 per month, you can do so at Child Sponsorship

The newest missionaries we are working with have arrived in Haiti.  Jay & Dena arrived on Friday and are getting settled in.  Look forward to working with them in Galgal Haiti.  To give it all to God and be obedient is a wonderful thing.

One project that will begin soon is the building of the cooking building.  Glad to have raised the funds for this to happen.  We have some of the best supporters around.  Thank you all for making this happen.
This past month we had something that was very discouraging as well encouraging for us.  Through some common contacts, a man contacted us for assistance with his orphanage in Haiti.  Now our ministry does not just run out and help people due to their need.  Yes it would be nice to help out everyone, however we do not have the resources to do so.  Also, we need to do our due diligence about anything we will be spending money on.  This orphanage needed help in feeding the kids.  I contacted several supporters of this organization and they stood by the director in charge.  Upon further study, things were not adding up to us.  Things did not seem as being on par to what he was saying.  We did more checks and found out that this orphanage does not exist anymore.  The director was using pictures from another orphanage.  This all happened during a time that our missionaries we work with were on break in the USA and not able to visit this facility.  I was shocked as well as deeply hurt as this gentleman was constantly referring to God about being a blessing to everyone.

In the end, I was comforted in the fact that through our due diligence, we were able to expose this scam.  We also contacted other organizations that were unknowingly helping out this con artist.  They followed up on our research and have since stopped all funds.  Whatever organizations you support, please be sure they are constantly checking on their projects.

July 2014 Newsletter

logotextbelow.jpgJULY 2014 NEWSLETTER

Presidents Corner

As we enter July, school has been dismissed for the summer in Haiti, ministry work for the school does not stop however. This summer an additional school building is in the process of being built at King's Cross school. This new building  will be a welcome addition to the older children who have been having classes in a temporary building. One of our summer projects has been to furnish this school building with bench's/desks. Perhaps on a future trip, we might even have the opportunity to paint this building. God has been abundantly faithful to our ministry by providing for all our needs for these projects placed before us. As we have said many times, we are so thankful for each & everyone of you who have encouraged us, supported us & prayed for us. You are our ministry & through you, God has shined His light upon Haiti.

Acts 20:35 - "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive"

1 Peter 3:15- "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect"

King’s Cross School
King's Cross school in Galgal, Haiti will be completing its newest class room building this year. We have committed to furnishing this school with the bench/desk. They are $50 each & are handcrafted in Haiti by local craftsmen. As of the writing of this newsletter, we have raised support for almost all of the these desks. We are inquiring what else is needed before classes resume in the fall.  We would like to get any of these school projects fully funded by the end of July.

Isaiah 54:13- "All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace"

Solar Bible Players
We are still trying to find reasonably priced solar charged Bible players. As of yet, we have not had any success. We are still searching for what we need at a cost we can afford.

Romans 5:8- " But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us"

Haiti News
Haiti as well as much of the Caribbean has been hit hard. This latest mosquito borne disease is chikungunya. This disease causes a rash, fever & excruciating joint pain. The good news is, it is rarely fatal. The symptoms last for approximately 1 week.

Psalm 27:1- "The Lord is my light and my salvation
whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?"

Goat Project
Our goat project is making a huge impact on the lives of the Haitians. The extra income produced by selling offspring from the goats now is providing many families with the much needed money to purchase food. This project is ongoing year round. Goats can be purchased for $45 & it will be donated to a family in need.

Haiti Nonprofit - Letter from The President

Many of life's greatest things are things that money can not buy. Quality time with friends and family. Making memories that lasts a lifetime. I have been fortunate in life, having had a supportive family and the opportunity to try my hand at many things. There have been many successes as long with many failures. However, if we learn from these things, they can be all used for good. God works in much the same way. He gives us many blessings in life, many we not even aware of. He also lets us fail at many things. These too, are to be meant for our spiritual growth.

I am often reminded of how God can use anyone to bring Him glory. How God has used four men in our ministry to do some amazing things. Everyone of us in our ministry is a nobody. None of us have any great talents, but God uses us. None of us are great leaders, but God uses us. None of us are scholars, but God uses us. None of us have any bible schooling, but God uses us.

Why does God use us? I believe He uses us as we seek out His will and guidance in all we do in ministry. God has opened so many doors in this ministry, making it very easy for us to do His will. Our Lord has a plan for each and everyone of you. Be obedient and let Him guide your path.

Racism Biblical View

Question: What does the Bible say about racism, prejudice, and discrimination?

Answer: The first thing to understand in this discussion is th...at there is only one race"the human race. Caucasians, Africans, Asians, Indians, Arabs, and Jews are not different races. Rather, they are different ethnicities of the human race. All human beings have the same physical characteristics (with minor variations, of course). More importantly, all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27). God loved the world so much that He sent Jesus to lay down His life for us (John 3:16). The "world" obviously includes all ethnic groups.

God does not show partiality or favoritism (Deuteronomy 10:17; Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11; Ephesians 6:9), and neither should we. James 2:4 describes those who discriminate as "judges with evil thoughts." Instead, we are to love our neighbors as ourselves (James 2:8). In the Old Testament, God divided humanity into two "racial" groups: Jews and Gentiles. God's intent was for the Jews to be a kingdom of priests, ministering to the Gentile nations. Instead, for the most part, the Jews became proud of their status and despised the Gentiles. Jesus Christ put an end to this, destroying the dividing wall of hostility (Ephesians 2:14). All forms of racism, prejudice, and discrimination are affronts to the work of Christ on the cross.

Jesus commands us to love one another as He loves us (John 13:34). If God is impartial and loves us with impartiality, then we need to love others with that same high standard. Jesus teaches in Matthew 25 that whatever we do to the least of His brothers, we do to Him. If we treat a person with contempt, we are mistreating a person created in God's image; we are hurting somebody whom God loves and for whom Jesus died.

Racism, in varying forms and to various degrees, has been a plague on humanity for thousands of years. Brothers and sisters of all ethnicities, this should not be. Victims of racism, prejudice, and discrimination need to forgive. Ephesians 4:32 declares, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Racists may not deserve your forgiveness, but we deserved God's forgiveness far less. Those who practice racism, prejudice, and discrimination need to repent. "Present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God" (Romans 6:13). May Galatians 3:28 be completely realized, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Jan 1, 2014 Newsletter

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been reflecting on our ministries activities for the past year. While doing this, I am in such amazement on how God has used us to do some amazing things. With the Lord as the center of our ministry. He has opened every door for us to do His will. From working with our full time missionaries to implementing new programs, God has laid out our direction. What our Lord has in store for us in 2014, we do not know. Whatever His plan are for us, we will be there to serve Him.

We can not move forward without mentioning a very important part of our ministry, this part is You!!!. We are so thankful for your support and prayers over the past year. Without you, we could not do what we do. For that, we thank you. On behalf of all of us at You Have A Choice Ministries, we would like to wish you all a blessed new year.

Bibles & Outreach
One of our core programs has been providing Bibles to Christian that do not have a Bible. We are expanding this outreach to do more to reach lost souls at whatever means. We have committed to do more in this area. From providing creole and spanish tracts, Bibles and hymn books. Creole Bibles are $19, hymn books are $10. Any help with this greatly appreciated. Help us reach the lost.

He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.  Mark 16:15

Mission Trip April 2014
As with our other mission trips, we would like to bring supplies with us for the school children. Some people have asked us what we will be bringing, so here is a short list. Items needed, toothbrushes, toothpaste, boys & girls underwear, vitamins with iron, pencils & sharpeners, stickers, socks. If you can help with any of these things, it would be greatly appreciated.

Size Has Its Advantages
As a smaller ministry. we often think about the things we could do if we had a huge supporter base like the large corporations do. However size does matter. As a smaller organization, we can do many things that are not possible with large organizations. We can provide pictures of your donation at work, to see the actual goat you purchased being gifted to a family. We can put a face to someone receiving there only meal of the day. We can see the smile of the widow receiving her very own Bible. We can see a 13 year old orphan getting a shirt, his first ever new piece of clothing. We know most of our supporters by their name. We can answer your questions and provide details of the individuals served. So yes, size does matter. Remember 100 percent of your donation goes right to work improving the life's of the Haitian people. All administration cost are paid for personally by the board of directors.

You Hace A Choice Ministries Sept Newsletter

Presidents Corner

As summer ends & school starts, it is always a good time to reflect and adjust schedules. Be sure to spend some quality time with our Lord.

September starts the school year in Haiti. This year we are excited to be funding a new lunch program in Cabaret section of Haiti. We have additional projects planned for this area as well. Some additional facts & logistics still need to be worked out. Please keep us in prayer as we move forward with these programs.

I would like to personally thank each & everyone of you for the prayers & support you have given us the past year. Without you, none of this could happen. We are proud to say we have some the most loyal & generous supporters of any organization.

Goat Time

In July, Grace Point Church in Vestal NY had a vacation bible school. We had the privilege of speaking every day at this, sharing about life in Haiti. The children brought in their loose change in a friendly competition between the boys & girls this money was  for buying goats for needy families.

Jason & Ginger Lovan were able to purchase a group of goats to be handed out to needy families. Once all these were brought back, Jason had these preg checked and every single goat was pregnant. What a surprise blessing this was from our Lord. In the coming weeks these goats will be distributed to families in need. Pictures will soon follow.

Our big fall fundraiser is a raffle for a Apple iPad 16GB wifi. Tickets are $5 each. These can be purchased from any board member, the Coin Shop in Johnson City or online through our website.

Project Changes

As exciting as adding programs to our ministry is, we must also examine other projects that may not be the best use of our resources. After a couple months of discussion & prayer, we will be ending our monthly medical clinic. We strongly believe in the value of a medical clinic in a village where many people had prior to this, never seen a medical doctor. However, medical clinics are not well suited for our ministry. The cost of the clinic cost us around $8 per person per Dr. visit. As a board, we felt the cost of this program would be better used at a project that is more suited for us. Perhaps in the future if funding allowed, we would entertain the thought of restarting a medical clinic. In the meantime, we are moving forward with our other programs and are searching for another organization that might be interested in taking this over.

Proverbs 3:5-6 " Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take"

There was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.
Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching.  As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea.  The boy came closer still and the man called out, ”Good morning!  May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”
The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

Haiti School Feeding Program

At our last board meeting, we had a great discussion as to what our goals were as a nonprofit.  It did boil down as our core focus was on feeding programs & sustainability through our goats, pig & rabbit programs.  We are continuing our programs, however we do want to emphasize our core goals.

With that said, we have expanded our feeding program to Galgal Haiti and are helping the King's Cross School.  Currently attendance is around 153 children.  The school does have a feeding program, when funds are available.  Missionaries, Jason & Ginger have done a wonderful job at keeping cost down while providing a nutritious meal.  We are committed to helping support this meal, so that the children get a meal everyday.  For many of the children, this is the only meal they will eat that day.

I would like everyone to think about that for a moment.  Can you imagine not having the money to feed your children.  What does that do for a child's development?  All of us  in first world countries eat out.  Could we skip one meal a month & put this money towards helping these children?  Are we faithful servants of the blessing we have received?

I am asking if at all possible, would you partner along with us and make this feeding program a success by feeding every child a meal on each school day of the year.  If we all skipped one meal or did not eat one meal out a month, we could easily pay for this program.

As a way to jump start this program, we are offering this great, You Have A Choice Ministries t-shirt to anyone who donates $100 or more to this.  Donations can be made at www.youhaveachoiceministries.org

You Have A Choice Ministries - VBS Video

Grace Point Church Vacation Bible School  Vestal NY  One of the videos we shared.  Just kind of some fun pics on this video

www.youhaveachoiceministries.org

VBS Video = Grace Point Church Vestal NY

Another video that we share at vacation bible school.  Was a fun time looking at the kids faces as they watched video.

We had the opportunity to share our ministry with the vacation bible school of Grace Point Church in Vestal NY.  We shared each day a little part about Haiti & the various projects we have.  After that we shared a short picture video.  The children shared their change everyday & by the end of the week, had collected enough money to purchase 23 goats for some poor families in Haiti.

Saturday, June 29, 2013

We have just returned from our trip to Northern Haiti.  It was good chance to get to see all of our programs in action.  Our trip was 2 weeks long but it felt as if it was only a few days.  One of our first days, we had the opportunity to share the Gospel at the hospital in Cap Hatien, Haiti.  I do not believe that there is anything anyone can tell you to prepare you for a third world hospital.  We did have several professions of faith.  It was a privilege to hand out the hospital packs that many of our supporters had made.  To help someone in need is the greatest thing.

We participated in our monthly medical clinic in Dourvey Haiti.  Over 50 people were seen by the doctor.  Most patients
were also given medications.  After Dourvey, the medical clinic was held at the Living Christ Orphanage where all the children & workers had a medical examination.  In the afternoon, children from the community were also see at the medical clinic.  At both clinics, Pastor's were present and sharing the Gospel.
The feeding program is seeing some great results in people coming to church for the meal.  They are now being fed spiritually as well as physically.  Around 700 meals are being served every month.   At our next board meeting, we will be talking about expanding this program to another village.  Committing to a program is something we encourage all our supporters to do.  This helps us plan a strategy as implementing these feeding programs takes a lot of planning & prayer.

The pig & goat program is a ongoing endeavor of ours to make a sustainable environment in Haiti.  All future animal recipients are required to have a training session.  This training is based on building a stronger & better animal than that is currently in Haiti.

One of my favorite programs is getting Gods word in to the hands of people that do not own a bible.  There are many people that can read, but do not own a bible. It was a great joy to hand out bibles to each orphan from a sponsor here in the states.  We were also able to hand out some bibles after the church service as well.  It is wonderful to see God's hand in all that we do,

We have a few new programs that we will be introducing very soon.  I promise to tell you about one of these right after our board meeting.  I think you will all like this program.

June 2013 Newsletter

As June is quickly approaching, Nicole & I are busy preparing for our Haiti trip. We will be in Haiti, June 11-25. Many exciting things are planned on this trip. We will be helping out at several medical clinics, feeding programs & our beloved pig & goat adoption program. A special day is planned for Dourvey Haiti, with a guest speaker all the way from Conklin, NY, presenting a Gospel message.
We will also be spending time at the Living Christ Orphanage. We have some great activities planned for the children. Also some repair work will be done & an assessment of future projects that will need to be done. We have some plans of perhaps bringing a team of a few construction minded individuals next year to do some larger projects.
Mark 16:15 says "And then he told them go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone"
Please keep us in your prayers as we travel, that God will be glorified by our work in Northern Haiti

UPDATE ON MIGURLIN
Migurlin is a young child who was badly burned in a household cooking accident. Julienne was able to get him transported to a burn unit in the Dominican Republic. Some great healing has already taken place. Over the course of the next year, he will be wearing a clear medicated mask that helps with the healing to prevent deep scaring.  He will continue treatment on a outpatient basis at the burn unit.
Proverbs 19:17 says "If you help the poor you are lending to the Lord and he will repay you"

DOURVEY HAITI FEEDING PROGRAM
On any given Sunday, around 125 people receive a meal through our feeding program. This meal is fed after the church service. With the opportunity of receiving some food, church attendance has risen. We are excited to report that last month, 5 people who had not previously been attending church, had accepted Christ as their Savior at the church/feeding program. These 5 people are now being discipled to through the pastor. What a joyous time in being a part of this ministry. I am in awe, the way that our Lord can use each & everyone of us.
Deuteronomy 15:4 says "There should be no poor among you for the Lord your God will greatly bless you in the land he is giving you as a special possession"

A SERVING HEART
Many of you know Julienne, who is a full time missionary in Haiti, who you may not know is Deb Eklund. Deb is co-founder of A Serving Heart ministries, the mission that we work alongside of. Deb was instrumental in helping us get our ministry off the ground. Deb is always the one I run to with a crazy idea or question. She always knows how to encourage us & has the experience we need when it comes to making things happen. Deb works behind the scenes, providing Julienne the support & prayers that she needs.
You Have A Choice Ministries is forever thankful to Deb & Julienne for the support needed to keep our ministry running full steam ahead.
Deb & Julienne, thank you for all the dedicated efforts you do in Northern Haiti.
